Decision to drop the bomb


When Truman learned that the Manhattan project was a big success, he realized that ending the war with Japan was in his hands. After four years of fighting, the Japanese still weren't giving up. The only way to end it quick was using the atomic bomb for the first time.

Choice of Target
Hiroshima and Nagasaki were the perfect targets for the following reasons:

  • Probable weather conditions
  • urban/industrial area
  • the blast would make effective damage
  • hills surrounding the area would also help cause damage
